Coochie Classic Archive

From its small beginnings in 2016, the Coochie Classic has become one of the premier dedicated SUP races in Queensland. The full course takes racers 8+km around the iconic Coochiemudlo Islandj, Victoria Point. The short course (4km) takes paddlers to the ferry and back to the start and is often taken as a personal challenge for paddlers wanting to step up to the longer distance. Beyond Coochiemudlo Island lies Stradbroke Island, Quandamooka country.

'Coochie' as it is affectionately known, provides some of the most changeable and challenging paddling conditions you will find. It is flat, calm and you're paddling with dolphins one minute, and the next you're battling headwinds, cross-winds and downwinding it behind the island before heading towards the finish line at Les Moore Park (unless of course you're aiming at the wrong beach!).

The race, run by the BrisSUP Club, usually takes place in October each year. It is now part of the Laydigo Triseries which includes the three annual SUP races run by South East Queensland's three SUP clubs:

Race the Bay: Mooloolaba: Sunshine Coast Standup Paddleboarding Club

Clearwater Classic, Elliott Heads: 4670 Standup Paddleboarding Club

Coochie Classic, Brisbane: Brisbane Standup Paddleboarding Club
